Memories Cafe

Posted in Ottawa, restaurants

This is another one of those places I’ve been meaning to post a quick review of to our blog, but just never got around to it.

I’d always known about this little place in the Byward Market, but for whatever reason I never bothered to try it out. I think I thought it was just a coffee and dessert place, and there were very few times that I just wanted coffee and dessert from a restaurant.

Salmon Sandwich at MemoriesWe finally tried the place for lunch about a year ago and have since been back quite a few times. While the menu is small and doesn’t often change, it does have a good mix of sandwiches, soups, salads and other small dishes such as chili or burritos. Pictured is my favourite of everything I’ve tried: A smoked salmon sandwich served with avocado mayo on ciabatta bread.

Their cakes and pies are huge. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture, but trust me: you get a very large serving if you order dessert, so you may want to share with a friend!

Service here is friendly and usually pretty quick, even when they’re really busy.

Memories Restaurant, 7 Clarence Street in the Byward Market. (613) 241-1882. Lunch $15-$20
